Thousands of Massachusetts residents may soon lose access to their doctors due to a reimbursement dispute between their insurer Point32Health and Children’s Hospital, UMASS Hospital and Tenet Hospital.
Point32Health is the 2nd largest insurer in Massachusetts and owns Tufts Health Plan and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. The change primarily impacts those individuals on Tufts Health Direct, a subsidized program that is offered through the state's Health Connector.
Point32Health earlier this week indicated that it was not able to reach an agreement on a new contract with the hospitals and that it would notify all Tufts Direct members impacted by the impasse that they would need to select new physicians by January 1, 2025. The insurer is continuing to negotiate with the hospitals.
