Per state law, Chapter 19A, Section 43, all providers who contract with or receive funding from EOEA, ASAPs, MassHealth OLTSS and those whose services are certified by EOEA must ensure that all current employees complete training on caring for and supporting LGBTQ seniors and their families.
To assist with the completion of this required training, the Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA) launched an online training course for providers to prevent and eliminate discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and expression. The link for the training is https://www.bu.edu/phpbin/ssw-network/enroll/d923c75c903d027fd6f940a7ae34c6d988ba7726/. Once completed the training will provide the learner a certificate of completion which will need to be made available for record-keeping requirements.
EOEA has worked with their partners at Boston University’s Center for Aging & Disability Education & Research (BU CADER) to create a group learning option for this required training. Organizations can fill out an online form requesting the opportunity to conduct group learning. For an organization to hold group learning, the facilitator must be on record with BU CADER as having successfully completed the training.
Please use this link to access the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page to explain the group learning process.
The required training must be completed by all current staff by June 30, 2022 and by all new hires within 12 months of being hired. For other questions about the LGBT and Aging training or of you already provide training about caring for and supporting LGBTQ seniors and their families please contact Allison Staton at Allison.M.Staton@mass.
