The state’s November total unemployment rate was 2.9 percent, up 0.1 percentage point from the revised October estimate of 2.8 percent, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) announced last Friday. Ranking 9th in the nation for lowest unemployment, the state’s November unemployment rate was 0.8 percentage points lower than the national rate of 3.7 percent reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Since employment levels bottomed out in April 2020, Massachusetts has gained 724,600 jobs, with 66,100 jobs added over the year ending in November 2023. Sectors with the largest over-the-year gains include Education, Health Services, Construction, and Leisure and Hospitality. Mass Senior Care is continuing its extensive workforce development efforts with the Legislature and Administration to increase the supply of direct care staff.
