Based on their experience in the recent Mass Senior Care/HebrewSenior Life AHRQ ECHO National Nursing Home COVID-19 Action Network Training Center project, several facilitators collaborated on an article, Building community and resilience in Massachusetts nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The article was recently published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS)and outlines the lessons learned from the 16-week ECHO based training and other key points including:
- Frontline nursing home staff during the COVID-19 pandemic faced extraordinary stressors including high infection and mortality rates among residents and staff as well as ever-changing federal and state regulations.
- A 16-week virtual and interactive educational series on COVID-19 infection control enabled nursing home leaders to create a supportive, peer-to-peer learning community in the midst of a major disaster.
