Change in Availability of COVID-19 Test Kits

  • Change in Availability of COVID-19 Test Kits
September 24, 2025

The Department of Public Health (DPH) was receiving COVID-19 at-home test kits from the federal government through ASPR’s program (HPOP). Unfortunately, that program ended on June 3, 2025, and ASPR is no longer shipping COVID-19 tests. DPH now has only a small supply of test kits that may be requested by long-term care facilities only during an outbreak and are intended as a short-term bridge if a facility cannot get tests right away from your medical supply vendor. They are no longer for stockpiling at the facility level. Medical supply vendors have reported an ample supply of test kits with various pricing. Medicare Part B continues to cover laboratory-conducted COVID-19 tests when ordered by a healthcare provider. To request COVID-19 test kits for an outbreak, click here. Nursing facilities must report outbreak cases to DPH using this form. Once DPH confirms an outbreak has been reported, one case (48 kits) will be made available for pickup at the DPH warehouse in Franklin.
