This week, Veterans from several Mass Senior Care member facilities were honored with the unforgettable experience of flight in a restored WWII-era open-cockpit biplane, courtesy of the nonprofit organization Dream Flights, with support from Mass Senior Care and Alliance Health & Human Services. Aboard the iconic Stearman aircraft – once used to train military pilots during World War II – these Dream Flyers soared 1,000 feet above the ground, reliving the thrill and freedom of flight in a powerful tribute to their service.
At Beverly Airport on Wednesday, Veterans from Alliance Health at Rosewood and Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre took to the skies. The flights continued Thursday at Norwood Memorial Airport, where Veterans from Alliance Health at Braintree and Webster Manor Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center had their turn in the cockpit. Both days served as meaningful reminders of the importance of honoring those who served and creating joyful, lasting memories for our older Veterans.
Dream Flights is a nonprofit organization that partners with senior living and long-term care communities to create an experience of a lifetime for veterans living in their communities. This year marks the 15th year fulfilling their mission of giving back to those who gave. The organization has given more than 7,500 Dream Flights in 49 states to our nation's senior military veterans.
“We are delighted to support this event,” said Tara Gregorio, President of Mass Senior Care. “There is such strong community around our older Veterans and it’s wonderful to watch them experience and share a piece of their own history. There is so much incredible work and dedication in this sector every day to provide the highest standards of care, and Dream Flights is a great example of that.”
Mass Senior Care thanks Alliance Health & Human Services, the incredible Dream Flights team, and our member facilities for helping to make it all possible. We are proud to be part of the team that made such memorable days happen for our local veterans.
