Operationalizing 10/1/23 MDS Changes – Virtual Workshop
Wednesday, January 25, 2023
9:00 am – 12:00 noon
NOTE: CMS has not yet released the updated RAI manual and will likely not release it until spring 2023. Due to this delay, this session will review the new sections of MDS effective 10/1/2023 and focus on how CMS will utilize these changes and what impact they will have on your quality measures and SNF value-based purchasing.
Program Description:
The countdown to massive MDS changes is on!
This new MDS version will not only impact Medicare reimbursement; significant changes to case mix methodologies will affect SNF Medicaid reimbursement. Proactive providers will be better prepared for the changes and will mitigate potential revenue losses.
Elimination of section G, revision to section GG, new items that supply data for Transfer of Health quality measures and Standardized Patient Assessment Data Elements (SPADEs), and N0415’s lengthy medication list mean providers need to rethink methods of communication and delegation of documentation to capture information for MDS 3.0 version 1.18.11 effective 10/1/23.
With staffing a concern already, this additional workload requires a thoughtful rollout. Join this session to review major changes to the MDS beginning 10/1/23 and the related changes to facility processes to ensure information is captured. The presenter will explore the impact on a provider’s 5-Star rating, quality measures, and reimbursement. Attendees will leave this session with actionable steps to put into operation.
Objectives:
- Identify at least 15 significant changes to the MDS 3.0 version 1.18.11 and impacts on Medicare and Medicaid revenue.
- Examine changes to interdisciplinary processes required to capture new MDS items, and detail at least 3 strategies to implement.
- Understand the potential impact MDS changes can have on SNF 5-Star ratings and Quality Measure.
