Administrative, clinical, and operations staff from nursing facilities across the state attended Mass Senior Care’s April 25th Spring Conference & Trade Show at the DCU Center in Worcester. This dynamic and informative program featured a morning session with remarks by MSCA Chair Tom Lavallee, MSCA President Tara Gregorio and a presentation, Using Data and Technology for Medicare and Medicaid PDPM and Quality Management, by members of the Zimmet Healthcare Services Group, Steven Littlehale, Vincent Fedele and Michael Sciacca. Jerald Cosey, a former nursing home administrator and owner of J Cosey Speaks, addressed the afternoon audience on the power of purpose and the need for long term care professionals to rehydrate themselves and utilize their “COVID Conviction” as they develop and nurture their leadership skills.
“Despite all of the noise about nursing home reform at both the federal and state levels, I continue to be optimistic about the future of our sector,” noted Tom Lavallee, MSCA Chair. “The Mass Senior Care Board of Directors is laser-focused on advocating for solutions to our workforce, reimbursement and regulatory challenges. I am proud of our accomplishments, and I applaud the dedication of all of our nursing facility staff.” Lavallee presented recognition awards to two members of the Board of Directors who are retiring from leadership roles in their organizations, Karen Laganelli, President and CEO of Notre Dame Health Care and Sr. Jacquelyn Mcarthy, CEO/Administrator of Bethany Health Care Center.
MSCA President, Tara M. Gregorio provided an overview of the Association’s current legislative, workforce and regulatory initiatives, noting, “The many residents in our care are the reason why we do the work we do. The challenges we face only inspire me more to continue advocating for the resources our staffand residents need.” She stressed the importance of grassroots advocacy, and expressed gratitude for the many members who are helping to support our legislative efforts to invest in quality nursing facility care to allow us to increase staff wages, hire additional staff and provide care our to our medically complex patients.
