ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.

1. Be an excellent leader/role model to all. Have a positive, caring, proactive and kind attitude. Adhere to, support and enforce policies, procedures and rules. Participate in Culture Change initiatives with all levels of staff.

2. Responsible for the development of objectives and standards of nursing practices and procedures, overall compassionate leadership of all levels of nursing staff, coordination of nursing/CNA services, oversee needs based development of all staff training programs, and the evaluation and review of patient/resident care and nursing/CNA practices to ensure that all patient/residents receive the highest quality care.

3. Develop, implement and evaluate department and resident care policies, procedures, and practices to accomplish activities and functions of department through effective training, mentoring, creative utilization, development of staff and corresponding materials.

4. Assist in the recommendation, research, development, promotion, and/or change of programs. Engage in research, studies and investigations related to improving all nursing care and procedures. Review, analyze, Interpret, evaluate and utilize pertinent research data related to professional practice. Prepare reports, records and directives to obtain/give data required for planning of nursing/CNA services activities and ensuring efficiency and effectiveness of operations/scheduling and staffing.

5. Maintain awareness of patient/resident/staff needs and physiological and psychological status. Assure that care plans and staff development plans are maintained and kept current for each patient/resident/staff in coordination with other appropriate disciplines in order to provide total excellence of care.


6. Coordinate activities of all nursing and clinical departments to establish effective staffing relationships and to ensure optimum efficiency, effectiveness and economy. Monitor and assure that all staffing levels are appropriate in relation to patient/resident acuity. Direct and consult with middle managers to ensure issues are addressed and through documentation and by implementing necessary policies and procedures.

7. Recruit, welcome, select, orient, guide, mentor and motivate staff to excel in job performance. Implement performance evaluation and recognition systems. Meet with staff on a regular basis to coordinate nursing/CNA and clinical objectives, review status of progress and ensure efficiency and effectiveness of nursing and clinical objectives.

8. Administer departmental budgets. Implement cost control systems. Participate in the allocation of funds by providing information as to appropriate staffing levels and needed materials and equipment.

9. Confer with local, state, federal and other regulatory agencies regarding inspection and compliance to rules and regulations. Attend and participate in professional association programs, activities and conferences.

10. Develop and participate in in-service programs, meetings, workshops and committees as necessary. Participate in Quality Improvement program.

11. Responsible for risk management for clinical matters. Is pro-active in approach to eliminate risk, review potential claims and liabilities. Maintain a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors. Be knowledgeable about fire and disaster procedures and participate in drills.

12. Maintain confidentiality of information. Promote the staff/patient/residents' right to privacy and confidentiality. Be a resident advocate and staff champion.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Registered Nurse with current registration to practice by the Massachusetts Board of Nursing Registration.

Minimum of (3) years’ experience in a geriatric long term care setting as a Director of Nursing Leader/Assistant Director of Nursing
