Strengthening Your Appeal: Navigating the IDR and IIDR Process with Confidence
Thursday June 25, 2026
11:00 am – 12:30 pm
Virtual
Seminar Description:
The Informal Dispute Resolution (IDR) and Independent Informal Dispute Resolution (IIDR) processes provide providers with critical opportunities to challenge federal deficiency citations. Successfully overturning or reducing deficiencies can help protect facilities from substantial financial penalties, enforcement actions, reputational damage, and heightened regulatory scrutiny. These outcomes can have lasting implications for a provider’s future, including impacts on 5-Star ratings, public reporting, and relationships with managed care and insurance organizations. In 2025, nearly 20% of deficiencies submitted through the IDR process were overturned. Despite the significant implications, many providers remain uncertain about which deficiencies may be disputed, how the IDR and IIDR processes function, and the most effective strategies for presenting a strong and successful challenge.
This seminar will provide a practical overview of the IDR and IIDR processes, including key requirements, timelines, and common pitfalls. Participants will also gain actionable strategies and best practices for preparing effective dispute submissions designed to strengthen their position and improve outcomes when challenging deficiency citations.
