The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on October 21, 2025 issued a special MLN Connects Newsletter, which included an update on the claims hold it put in place due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. In the October 21 update, CMS states that Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) have been instructed to process claims with dates of service of October 1, 2025, and later for services impacted by the expired Medicare legislative payment provisions passed under the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025, most notably all claims paid under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. CMS has directed all MACs to continue to hold those claims impacted by the expiration of the Medicare telehealth waiver.
