As a reminder, the CMS revisions to Appendix PP of the CMS State Operations Manual went into effect on April 28, 2025. Surveyors will be using the revised guidance during annual surveys. The revised Appendix PP regulations include changes to Admission, Transfer & Discharge, Chemical Restraints/Unnecessary Psychotropic Medication, Resident Assessment, Quality of Life and Quality of Care, Administration, Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI), Infection Prevention and Control, Nurse Staffing and other areas including clarifications and technical corrections.
