  • Massachusetts Attorney General Issues Multi State Guidance Concerning DEIA Employment Initiatives
February 21, 2025

Massachusetts Attorney General (AG) Andrea Joy Campbell has joined with Attorneys General from 15 other states to issue multi state guidance concerning diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) employment initiatives. The Guidance was issued in response to questions received from employers as a result of President Trump’s Executive Order issued on January 21, 2025 to end “illegal DEIA” programs. The Guidance states, “diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility best practices are not illegal, and the federal government does not have the legal authority to issue an executive order that prohibits otherwise lawful activities in the private sector or mandates the wholesale removal of these policies and practices within private organizations, including those that receive federal contracts and grants.” The AG Guidance also identifies best practices for DEIA including recruitment and hiring, professional development and retention, and assessment and integration.
