Admitting Patients with Opioid Use Disorder: Recent DOJ Investigations and Best Practices
Thursday, January 23, 2020
9:30 am – 11:30 am
(Registration starts at 9:00 am)
Mass Senior Care Association Office, Waltham
Program Description:
In the wake of the opioid crisis, skilled nursing facilities are under pressure to admit patients with a range of conditions that some facilities are not equipped to treat. While federal and state regulators have sent mixed messages over the years about SNF’s obligations regarding this patient population, recently the U.S. Department of Justice has launched investigations of SNFs based on their admission practices for patients with opioid use disorder (OUD). Now more than ever, your organization needs to understand federal and state requirements regarding patients with OUD, how to respond to a DOJ investigation, regulatory challenges and best practices for admitting patients with OUD.
Objectives:
- Understand the regulatory challenges and barriers to providing care to the patients with opioid use disorder;
- Understand the legal ramifications and process of DOJ investigations; and
- Identify best practices for admitting residents with OUD into skilled nursing facilities.
