Seminar Description:
Staff and health care providers in nursing homes play a crucial role in protecting residents and themselves. The better prepared you are, the safer an environment you provide for you and your residents. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
This training will teach participants about the key components of a nursing home infection prevention program, the prevention bundles necessary to break the chain of infection, and strategies to ensure program success. Participants will learn what their role is in preventing infections, how to select and use personal protective equipment, when to apply transmission-based precautions, and the steps for proper cleaning and disinfection of the resident care environment. Evidence-based practice, national guidelines, and regulatory standards will be presented along with the epidemiology of emerging pathogens and other disease-causing organisms.
In addition, the Department of Public Health, will review reporting requirements, most commonly reported infections and MDROs seen in Massachusetts nursing homes as well as a review of the ICAR assessments completed in the state.

- To discuss the role of the environment in transmission of infection.
- To identify emerging pathogens and organisms that cause healthcare-associated infections.

This training is not for Infection Prevention Control Officers and does not meet the specific requirements outlined by CMS for this position.

The Massachusetts Senior Care Association has qualified for “deemed status #NH-09015-007” from the Board of Registration of Nursing Home Administrators for Administrators. This program also meets continuing education requirements for Nurses in Massachusetts. All paid registrants will receive a certificate of attendance.
