The Social Security Administration (SSA) on March 26th issued an update to its recently announced policy regarding Identity Proofing that would have required certain elderly and disabled individuals to apply for benefits in person at a local SSA office. Under the updated policy beginning April 14, 2025, the In-Person Requirement Will Not Apply to Disability Insurance, Medicare, and SSI Applications. Individuals applying for these benefits can continue to complete their claim entirely over the telephone without the need to come into an office or they can apply online by establishing a personal my Social Security account.
