  • REMINDER: Authorization to allow nursing practice by Graduate Nurses & Nursing Students expires March 31, 2024

On March 29, 2023, Governor Healey signed an authorization to continue to allow nursing practice by graduates and students in their last semester of nursing education programs in accordance with guidance from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) until March 31, 2024. Mass Senior Care is working is working to extend the March 31st deadline, however, according to the current guidance employers may no longer allow nursing school graduates to work as nurses if they have not passed their nursing boards and become registered nurses or licensed practical nurses by March 31, 2024. Nursing facilities should encourage all graduate nurses to schedule and take the NCLEX by March 31. In addition, effective April 1, 2024, individuals who are nursing students attending the last semester of a nursing education program may no longer work as nurses.
