  • Nursing Facility Temporary Nursing Service (TNS) Agency Usage Data Trend
May 29, 2025
cms

With the recent release of Quarter 4 of 2024 Payroll Based Journal (PBJ) data, the amount of temporary nursing service (TNS) contract labor being utilized by Massachusetts’ nursing facilities decreased again compared to Quarter 3 of 2024. Registered Nurse (RN) contract labor usage decreased from 8.7% to 6.6% of total nursing hours; Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) contract labor usage decreased from 8% to 6%; and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) contract labor usage declined from 0.4% to 0.3%. These recent declines mark an ongoing trend over the last several quarters and are an encouraging sign as providers continue working toward reducing staff vacancies.
