  • Coming in 2024 – Electronic Death Pronouncement Process
December 1, 2023

The Department of Public Health, Registry of Vital Records and Statistics (RVRS) is replacing the current vital records registration system with the Massachusetts Vital Records Information Collaborative (MAVRIC), for the processing of all vital events. MAVRIC will be the state supported system to complete the medical death certification process. The MAVRIC launch will occur in phases, starting with the electronic death registration in 2024.

In MAVRIC, RN, NP, and PA pronouncers will complete the death pronouncement process electronically. With 43% of all deaths occurring in Hospice/Palliative or Long-term Care facilities, the discontinuation of paper-based certifications will impact your day-to-day work.

Training on using MAVRIC will be available on RVRS’s e-learning platform, TRAIN Massachusetts, with videos, quick-start guides and instructional guides. To enroll in TRAIN Massachusetts, please email the TRAIN help desk at DPH-TrainHelp@mass.gov. We strongly recommend you enroll early, so you are all set when MAVRIC training starts.
