  • Biden Administration Announces that Nursing Home Staffing Rule’s Release is Imminent
April 11, 2024
White House

At an event earlier this week to highlight Care Workers Recognition Month, President Biden noted that his Administration plans to finalize the CMS nursing home staffing rule in the coming weeks. CMS’ proposed minimum staffing rule was originally issued on September 1, 2023 and is currently being reviewed by the Administration’s Office of Management and Budget.

The Biden Administration also issued a fact sheet highlighting the status of the President’s Direct Care agenda, which covers a wide spectrum of topics including  making child care more affordable, supporting family caregivers, boosting compensation and job quality for care workers, and expanding long term care options. In regard to long term care, the President’s agenda emphasizes the need to expand investment in Medicaid home and community-based services to help a larger number of older adults and people with disabilities receive care in their home or community, and promote better opportunities for home care workers and family caregivers. The Administration notes that there has been substantial growth amongst the younger population under 65 with disabilities living in nursing homes.
