The Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) or State Tested Nursing Assistant (S.T.N.A.) is to provide each assigned resident with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s care plan, and as may be directed by his/her supervisor.

Reports to
Directly reports to the Charge Nurse of assigned unit.

Supervises Nursing Assistant (non-certified)


Recommended Minimum Position Qualifications

Must be a certified or state tested Nursing Assistant in accordance with the laws of the state.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
Must have patience tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Physical and Sensory requirements (With and without the aid of mechanical devices

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
Education:

Minimum of 10th grade; a GED in states where required.

Professional Experience:

Prior experience as a nursing assistant is desirable.

Certification/Licensure:

Actively licensed as a Certified Nursing Assistant or State Tested Nursing Assistant in assigned state(s) of employment.

Exposure Risk:

The Certified Nursing Assistant can be at high risk for exposure to:

Blood/Body Fluids
Repetitive Motion
Weight Lifting
Prolonged sitting, standing, bending, etc.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide assistance to assigned resident’s with Activities of Daily Living consistent with the resident’s plan of care.
• Adhere to and practice Resident Rights policies and procedures.
• Assist with resident admission, discharge and transfer requirements as assigned.
• Complete all assigned documentation during tour of duty.
• Report all resident changes in condition promptly to the Charge Nurse.
• Report all observed or allegations of resident abuse to the Charge Nurse immediately consistent with policy and procedure.
• Notify the Charge Nurse when supplies require restocking, are unavailable and needed to provide resident care.
• Notify Charge nurse if equipment is not functioning.
• Participate in the resident Care Plan meetings as assigned.
• Adhere to and practice safety, sanitation and infection control practices.
• Attend education and training sessions as required and assigned.
