Long Term Care Residents Should Receive 2nd COVID-19 Booster Shot as Soon as Eligible
With the FDA authorization and CDC recommendations of a second booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for certain individuals including those over age 50, DPH and Mass Senior Care strongly encourages Long-Term Care Facilities to provide and administer the second booster vaccine to residents by April 30 or as soon as the resident qualifies for the booster. Since the risk of severe COVID-19 increases with age, adding a second booster dose eligibility for older adults helps to ensure those at highest risk are protected from severe disease. Long-term care facilities should contact their Long-Term Care (LTC) pharmacy to obtain the second booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna (mRNA) vaccine. All LTC Pharmacies have vaccine readily available for nursing facilities. Please contact MSCA if you are experiencing challenges accessing booster doses and/or need support in administering shots.
