From Risk to Resilience: Preventing Falls and Protecting Your Facility
- Katherine Saunders, Director, Division of Quality Improvement, Bureau of Health Care Safety & Quality, Massachusetts Department of Public Health
- Michelle O’Neill, Risk Control Director, CNA Insurance Group
- Provider Panel

Falls remain one of the most serious risks in nursing facilities, not only because they can lead to hospitalization or even death, but also because they put providers at risk for survey citations, lawsuits, and costly settlements. Government agencies including the OIG, DPH, and CMS have begun to pay special focus on falls, increasing oversight and accountability for providers. This program goes beyond the regulatory perspective to look at what falls mean for your facility in practice. We will review strategies you can implement to reduce fall risk, protect residents, and limit provider liability.
