Advocacy and Education: Keys to Implementing the
Core Components of the New LTC Reform Law

Monday, December 16, 2024

12 noon – 1pm

Zoom webinar – Complimentary for Mass Senior Care Facility and Corporate Members

Seminar Description:

On September 6, 2024, Governor Maura Healey signed into law an historic, comprehensive piece of legislation, Chapter 197 of the Acts of 2024, also referred to as An Act to Improve Quality and Oversight of Long-Term Care. This law will have a profound impact on the provision of nursing facility care by modernizing our Medicaid rate system to better reflect current care costs, establishing a workforce and capital trust fund to help implement programs to expand our workforce, allowing for medication aides in nursing facilities, and reforming the DPH licensure and suitability process to improve transparency and accountability from the nursing facility sector.

Now that implementation of the law is underway, it is critical that the long term care provider community advocates to ensure that the Administration and Legislature appropriate necessary resources to ensure successful implementation of these core components of the law, including investments for the Medicaid base year update to set rates using a base year no more than 2 years from the rate year.

Join Mass Senior Care expert staff who will provide additional information on the reform law’s implementation process and timeline as well as strategies to successfully advocate to ensure the funds are available to fully implement these new initiatives to ensure quality care.

Participants attending this webinar will:

  1. Understand the development of the law and the Legislature and Administration’s intent
  2. Identify three sections of the law that impact skilled nursing facility providers
  3. Recognize the role and urgency of grassroots advocacy in securing necessary Medicaid funding to implement key Medicaid reimbursement-related sections

Tara M. Gregorio, President

Helen Magliozzi, Director of Regulatory Affairs
