  • Community Engagement Continues to Bolster Spirits of Nursing Home Residents and Staff
May 15, 2020

Since the restrictions on visitation were enacted in early March, there has been an outpouring of support and encouragement for residents and staff from family members and communities across the state.  We are pleased to share several opportunities for resident engagement and encourage you to contact the individuals/organizations listed below.

  • Notes of Thanks to Healthcare Workers: The Healthcare Workforce Partnership of Western Mass is featuring notes of gratitude from Pathfinder Regional Technical High School, Edwards Church in Northampton, Elms College Graduate Admissions Team and University of Massachusetts Amherst, Department of Communication Disorders.  Please click here to access and print these notes which can then be posted around the facility.

  • Elder Companionship Project: Led by Dr. Karen Helfer, Professor, Department of Communication Disorders at UMASS Amherst, this two-phase project features inspirational videos created by UMASS student volunteers which have been posted on YouTube for you to share with residents. The second phase of the project involves setting up virtual visits and/or a letting writing campaign.  Please contact Karen Helfer if you are interested in participating in the second phase.

  • The Massachusetts Health Council is working with a group of high school students who are interested in sending cards and celebratory notes to nursing home residents and staff.  Please contact Jennifer Chen if you would like to participate in this outreach project.
